Circling Cabramatta | 2025

Circling Cabramatta
The Familiar in the Foreign:
Jewelry of the Southern Hemisphere
Galerie Handwerk, Munich
13 March - 17th April 2025

For more information:

The Familiar in the Foreign
ADC at Galerie Handwerk Munich

Jewellery of the Southern Hemisphere
Huge Distances - Close Cooperation

Circling is a series of new works which adorns the hands. The form (bangle) references the archetypal Chinese jade disc pendants for its symbolic meanings. The circular form in Chinese philosophy is associated with unity and the cyclical nature of life and harmony. The surface design draws from my personal culture of Chinese and Vietnamese lineage but more so connected to the place of Cabramatta through the surface visual language. Cabramatta is a suburb 27km southwest of Sydney with majority of its population of Southeast and East Asian heritage. The surface design of the bangle are collected imagery from the commercial town centre of Cabramatta, its built environment, shop fronts and food packaging design. Motifs are drawn, lasercut and cast in copper and silver to achieve a silvery grey tone.
